Text Box: Look What We’re Studying . . .  Reading:   Sound & Symbol Relationships   Number, Sight, Red Words  Words with short vowels, diagraphs & blends  Rhyming Words  Reading Fluency & with Expression  Comprehension:  Story parts & Retelling    Writing:   Forming each of the letters and writing down thoughts using sounds of letters to spell words.  Using capitalization and punctuation.  Using correct pencil grip.  Spacing of letters and words and staying on proper lines, and forming letters correctly (see attached sheet).  Using complete sentences.    Math:  Calendar & Review Skills  Recognizing sets of numbers, numerals and number words.  Writing numbers to 110, by 10’s, 5’s, and (2’s to 20).  Math Facts 0-20 (50 problems in 10 minutes)  Sequencing of numbers & writing the missing numbers  Fact Families  Place Value of Numbers using tens & ones  Greater than & Less than  Ordinal Numbers (first, second, third etc. to tenth)  Telling time on the hour and half hour.  Recognize and know values of penny, nickel, dime, quarter.  Count like coins to $1.00.  Problem solving strategies (draw a picture, think aloud, act it out)  Counting on and counting backwards to solve problems.  Adding doubles and three addends.
Text Box: Reminders      -Book Orders should be sent in on Thursday, May 3rd.     -Library Books- All library books and materials are due in May.  Students who have overdue books cannot participate in Field Day and will not receive their report card at the end of the year.    -Gates Reading Test/ End of Year Math Test—During the first two week of May we will be administrating the Gates Reading test & Semester Math Test. It is very important that students come well rested and fed on these days.    -Popcorn Sales—25 cents each Friday    -Field Day—May 15th Many students still need their white t-shirts so they can be tie-dyed.  We will tie-die the first week of May.  Parents are welcome to join us on Field Day to see their child in their events.  Students can bring a sports drink or juice that day.  A cooler will be available to keep them cool.    -Last Day of School –May 23rd       -- If you have a summer birthday, you may celebrate it any day in May.
Text Box: Odds & Ends     Homework:  Please continue reading 10 minutes each night, practice math facts, and spelling words.  The Red Word Test will be moved to Thursday’s starting in May.  Math Facts tests will continue on Fridays.
