Show and tell is one of the highlights of kindergarten. Not only is it fun, but it helps develop the following areas:

oral language skills (speaking in complete sentences, asking questions)
social skills (listening attentively, speaking in turn)
problem solving
associating beginning letters and sounds with real objects

We begin show and tell when we start the “Letter of the Week program. Children are assigned a specific day of the week to bring their show and tell. Their day will remain the same for the entire year. Each child’s show and tell object needs to be something that begins with the letter of the week. The child will give the class three clues about what he or she has hidden in his/her backpack – and we try to guess what it is! Please help your child to make the most of this experience by helping them find an object that is meaningful to him or her and to practice giving the clues.

A word about toys… Children often like to share their favorite toys. This is fine, but please remember to leave toy weapons and interactive games/TV toys at home. These types of toys can disrupt our classroom learning environment.

There is no show and tell on weeks that we do not meet a new letter person. If your child is absent, there is no school, or there is a scheduled field trip on your child’s show and tell day, he or she will not have show and tell that week.
