The History of Webberville - Webberville Fire Department

Scott House is the Captain of the Webberville Fire Department. He has been on the force for 6 years. If the Chief and the Assistant Chiefare not available, the Captain is in charge. He also helps with the training of the firemen. There are 22 people on the force. They are volunteers.

Each year the Fire Department has a Fireman's Field Day.The purpose of the event is to raise money for the Fire Department. It's usually held the last week in September. They sell ox burgers, oxburger soup, have a carnival with rides, and many clubs from this area have exhibits.

Usually the exhibits are selling something as a fund-raiser for their group. They also sponsor a parade and anyone can be in it. It usually lasts about an hour. Our High School Band always participates in it.

The Fire Department has had two significant fires. One was in 1985, when the Anderson Grain Elevator burned. The fire lasted for a week. Another fire was when the Library and the Village Restaurant burned. The Fire Departments from Fowlerville and Williamston assisted our Fire Department in putting it out.

The State of Michigan requires 180 hours of classroom work along with practical and written tests for training its fire fighters. The Webberville Fire Department covers all of Leroy Township, part of Locke Township, and part of White Oak Township.
