Looking Forward to the New School Year - August/September 2007
Brian Friddle, Superintendent
The new school year will soon be upon us and we are busy getting ready for the students return on Tuesday, September 4th.
We have some exciting new changes this year with the first one being current staff members with new responsibilities, and new staff joining the district. The first change is that I will be serving the district as the interim superintendent. This in turn will require that we have an interim principal in the secondary building. Dr. Mark Miller, former superintendent of Byron Schools, will be joining us in this capacity. Another staff change is that Mrs. Kathy Pierman will move to the elementary building and will teach 6th grade with Mrs. Perry. New staff members include a new elementary teacher, an administrative assistant in the Spartan Center, an early childhood teacher, a Spanish teacher, an English/theater arts teacher, and a secondary vocal music teacher. Please refer to page five for detailed information about some of the new employees.
The district also welcomes a new doctor to the medical office in the Spartan Center. Dr. William Mangan and his staff set up their new office in July and are prepared to provide health services for the Webberville Community. Dr. Mangan will start out with part time hours here in Webberville and will add hours as the patient load increases. If you are looking for a new doctor, or would like to have medical services that are provided locally, I encourage you to call and set up an appointment at 517-521-3406.
The athletic department is gearing up for fall as teams have begun to practice and prepare for the upcoming season. I would encourage you to have your student get involved in one of our many extra curricular activities. I would also recommend getting involved in one of the many student clubs that are available at Webberville Community Schools.
Mrs. Slider, with the assistance of Charlie Galbreath, have been working hard to design and layout the new court yard at the secondary building. Many hours of planning and hard work have been invested to get the new gardens underway. Look for upcoming opportunities of how you and your student can participate in the development of the new court yard. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Slider and Mr. Galbreath for designing the gardens and Beck’s Mobile Concrete for pouring concrete foundations for the new benches to be built upon.
In an effort to provide better service and to be more school and community minded, we have chosen to return to a district operated food service program instead of contracting with an outside vendor. Esther Marr and Dave Brown will be providing leadership for the food service program as we believe that local control will allow us to be more sensitive and responsive in our service to the students and the community.
It is our desire to provide our students with great opportunities as they pursue their education at Webberville Community Schools. Each new school year brings with it a new beginning and wonderful opportunities for growth and development for the students and the staff. I look forward to what lies ahead for us this year. See you in September!
