Lest They Be Forgotten Webberville Memorial Day Run
Dr. William C. Skilling, Superintendent
Next month as we close the school year with our annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony, we will have a special dedication of the Lest They Be Forgotten memorial in honor of Staff Sergeant Gregory McCoy. This memorial will be placed next to our three flag poles which were installed at the track and football stadium in honor of our Webberville servicemen and women. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.
In order to make this memorial a reality we need to raise $8,000. So far approximately $3,300 has been raised. The McCoy family is seeking donations to cover the cost. If you are interested in contributing to this memorial, please make your check payable to: OCVG/LTBF and mail it to: Oakland County Veterans Group/Lest They Be Forgotten, 711 Reynolds Drive, Waterford, MI 48328. Please reference Greg McCoy with your donation.
This year we will be kicking off our inaugural Lest They Be Forgotten Webberville Memorial Day Run. The first year it will be a 5K fun run/walk. In the future it will grow into a certified 5K run/walk and a 10K race. The purpose of this event is four fold.
1. To create more involvement in honoring those who have given their lives in service to their
country. The run will start at 9 a.m. following the 8:00 a.m. Memorial Day service.
2. To raise money for the upkeep of the Veterans Memorial in downtown Webberville.
3. To raise money for the upkeep of the Lest They Be Forgotten Memorial and gardens around
the flag poles and memorial at the track and field.
4 . To raise money for Webberville student scholarships.
The first year the proceeds from the run will be used to help pay for the new Lest They Be Forgotten Memorial.
We are seeking donations for the inaugural run on Memorial Day. If you would like to be a $100 sponsor, your name or your business name will be printed in all of our programs, brochures, on our website, and on our T-shirts. The sponsorships will help pay the cost of putting on the run so that all the registration fees can be earmarked for the memorial.
In addition to this event, there will be an all you can eat pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 26, 2007 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $6 for adults 14 years and older, $4 for children 6 – 13 years old and children 5 and under are free. The profits from the pancake breakfast will be donated to the memorial. Inside this newsletter you will find registration information for the run and information about the pancake breakfast. You can purchase your tickets for the pancake breakfast in the district office located in the Spartan Center. If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Weathers at 521-3422 ext. 106.
Please help us to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live free in our great country and the community of Webberville.
