Webberville students raise money for Katrina
Soon after Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast, Webberville students rallied with ideas as to how to help the victims. Unable to travel to the affected areas to help in person, students decided to raise money that would be sent to organizations that would put the money to good use rebuilding the area.
Webberville Elementary school students decided to create "Popcorn for People" in an effort to do their part in the relief effort. During the month of September, all proceeds from the weekly popcorn sales were dedicated to the American Red Cross. Many popcorn bags later, they were able to raise $154.00.
The secondary school held a coin drive to show their support of the clean up effort. The healthy living class, lead by teacher Nola Kingsley, sponsored a competition between classes to see who could donate the most coins. Coins were collected during the school day and during a bake sale at the homecoming football game. The winner of the competition, the senior class, donated a total of $192.00. The total for the school was $765.00.
Congratulations to all of the Webberville students and staff who donated money in order to make a difference in the lives of those affected by the hurricanes.
