ACES at Webberville Elementary

Webberville Elementary School participated in the ACES program on Wednesday, May 4 th. ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) is an activity in which millions of school children all over the globe exercise simultaneously in a symbolic gesture of fitness and unity.

With childhood obesity on the rise, and Michigan ranking as one of the most obese states in the country, the goal of ACES is to educate children about the importance of lifelong physical activity. The event takes place the first Wednesday in May which is also National Physical Fitness and Sports month. In the past three years, Michigan has had 858 schools participate with an average of 353, 432 students exercising simultaneously.

Webberville Elementary students in kindergarten through 6 th grade participated in activities that stressed physical movement and fun. Led by physical education teacher Nola Kingsley, students participated in events such as the ameba race where they had to lock their arms together and try to move as a group. They also had the opportunity to race as teams, try parachute beach ball, and one activity that involved passing a sack filled with mulch over the heads of their group. The students were very enthusiastic about ACES and discovered that staying physically active can be fun.
