Webberville FFA Off to a Great Start

Published - December 2004 Newsletter

Webberville FFA is off to a great start this year. September 25 th was an exciting day for the members as we won our first award of the year for the best float in the Firemen’s Field Day parade, followed the next day by our very successful chicken BBQ. Later in September we had six students attend leadership conferences at MSU. This two day event was filled with workshops on leadership development and personal growth.

On October 16 th the Webberville FFA had a Rake-N-Run. We raked lawns for four hours and bagged 60 garbage bags full of leaves. After our successful project, the Webberville Feed and Grain treated us to lunch.

The Webberville FFA went to National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky from October 27-30. The main part of the convention was the sessions, where all the business is done. Many of the sessions had guest speakers with the highlight being the key-note speaker Joe Theisman. He talked about the troubles in his life and how he overcame them. He told us we need to write down our goals to make sure we keep them in mind and accomplish them.

Other things that happened at the sessions are the different award presentations. One of the most important award ceremonies is the Stars Over America Pageant. This shows the top five American Degree winners of the different areas, including ag placement and agribusiness. Our very own Kevin Forester Jr. received his American Degree and serves as an inspiration.

Also at the sessions, the national FFA officers thanked the sponsors, heard from the head of the Department of Agriculture, and recognized many individuals that have helped the FFA.

Our annual Fruit and Nut sale is underway. We will also be adopting a family this Christmas. Contact Mrs. Benjamin at 521-3447 ext.356, or one of our members, to support our chapter.
