Webberville FFA students strike gold

On February 5th, nine Webberville FFA members traveled to Byron High School to compete in the District Leadership Contests. FFA members from Dansville, Mason, Byron, Perry and Webberville competed in a wide range of leadership events for both teams and individuals.

 

Cassie Benjamin and Jeanne VanGilder, 7 th graders, each competed in the Creed Speaking contest. They learned the FFA creed and recited it from memory. Both girls received a gold rating.

 

Megan Haraf, 9 th grade, competed in the Greenhand Public speaking contest. This contest is for 1st year members. Megan wrote and delivered a six-minute speech on composting. Megan achieved 2nd place and received a gold rating. She will be moving on to the regional level.

 

Katie Haraf, 11 th grade, competed in the Job Interview contest. She prepared a resume, filled out a job application, and was interviewed by the judges. Katie received a gold rating for her performance.

 

Webberville had five students compete as a team in the Parliamentary Procedure contest. They learned the rules of Parli Pro and ran a business meeting in an effort to solve a problem. They received 2nd place gold and will be advancing to regionals. Members of the team included; Helena VanGilder, Rachel VanGilder, Ashleigh Smith, Becca Beach, and Jessica Carpenter.

 

The regional FFA contests will be held Wednesday, Feb 18 at Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte. If the teams place first or second at regionals they will advance to the state level.

 

Webberville Community Schools is very proud of the accomplishments of the FFA students who completed and know they will continue to do well at the regional competition!
