Job Description: Director of Curriculum & Technology

Primary Function:

To provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of the entire instructional program of the district including curriculum, assessment and technology

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:
MA required with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas desirable: Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Instructional Design, Staff development & Instructional Technology

 

Training and Experience:
Experience as a building level administrator, director of instruction/staff development and/or director of instructional technology with a minimum of two (2) years experience.

Graduate course work in instructional design, staff development, curriculum, assessment, technology and leadership minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience

Working knowledge of the research on the integration of technology in curriculum, instruction and assessment

 

Demonstrated Technical Skills:
Organizational skills, ability to present materials to small and large groups, knowledge of K-12 curriculum, application of assessment and evaluation methods, application of instructional techniques in the classroom including the application, selection and implementation of educational technologies, foundation in research based instructional strategies

 

Human Relations Skills:
Ability to relate to students, parents, staff, teachers and members of the community

Assigned Responsibilities:

 

1. Guides development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional services, assessments and instructional technology

 

2. Keeps current of developments in curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology, instructional software and provides leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district educational programs

 

3. Communicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials and instructional software

 

4. Works with principals and teacher committees in orgainizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meeting, in order to effect continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district

 

5. Directs creation of and edits for publication all curriculum guides and materials prepared by and to be distributed among the instructional staff

 

6. Organizes and edits for publication in the annual report

 

7. Maintains a current curriculum manual to show graduation requirements, approved courses, credits allowed and any pertinent information useful to students and staff

 

8. Directs and leads the District Curriculum Council

 

9. Approves all staff development requests for conferences, workshops, in services, etc.

 

10. Studies, evaluates, and recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, technology and programs. Recommends the addition of new courses, grade placement credit allowance for courses, and graduation requirements

 

11. Assumes a leadership role in the developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by legislation or the Board of Education

 

12. Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement. Serves as a resource for the building school improvement teams.

 

13. Interprets the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, Administration, the staff, and the general public

 

14. Serves as a liaison between the district and other educational agencies in the development, coordination, and implementation of new programs for instructional improvement

 

15. Develops system-wide programs and schedules for annual group testing. Evaluates, on an ongoing basis, the school system’s assessment programs

 

16. Provides expertise in “best practices’ in the integration of technology into curriculum design

 

17. Assist staff in implementing strategies of assessment using technology

 

18. Provide professional development in the use of technology into curriculum

 

19. Coordinate the procurement, deployment, replacement, articulation and maintenance of all instructional technology, educational technology and software programs

 

20. Supervise technical support staff

 

21. Manage the website and development of the website to maintain currency and enhance instructional support

 

22. Provide budget oversight for areas of assigned responsibilities

 

23. Assume other responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent

 

Terms of Employment:

52-week contract with 20 paid vacation days and 10 paid holidays

 

Evaluation:

On or before March 1st of each fiscal year
