Job Description: Director of Choral Music

Primary Function:

 

The Director of Choral Music will provide leadership and oversight for the choral music programs K-12 and will teach choral music classes. The Director of Choral Music will be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate grade level classroom instruction and activities for the choral music programs. The Director of Choral Music will provide leadership for the annual high school musical.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:

BS degree in Music with Choral emphasis minimal

MA degree in music education or choral conducting preferred

.

Training and Experience:

Leadership skills to organize, develop, and evaluate a quality K-12 music and choral program that will set a new standard of excellence

 

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

Current with the use of instructional technology in music and choral education including but not limited to recording equipment, sound systems, MIDI, electronic keyboards and software applications for music education

 

Human Relations Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, administration and community members

Director of Choral Music

 

Assigned Responsibilities:

 

1. Provide leadership for the K-12 music programs

 

2. Investigate, recommend and implement music curriculum that is age appropriate to enhance the music and choral programs K-12

 

3. Recommend curriculum, instruction and new music/choir programs when needed to the Curriculum Council

4. Provide expertise for age appropriate curriculum, application of appropriate assessment, and for effective use of age appropriate, research based instructional strategies for choral music education

.

5. Create opportunities for students to achieve excellence in choral music through rehearsals and through competitions by competing at District, State and National competitions

 

6. Instructor for secondary choirs and upper elementary choirs. However, if the secondary choir demand equals a full-time schedule, then recommend the hiring of an additional choir teacher

 

7. Assess student voice quality and development for appropriate placement in the choral programs

 

8. Provide opportunities for students to perform outside the traditional choir performances scheduled

 

9. Work cooperatively with the Band Director, Orchestra Director and Theatre Instructor to build all of our performing arts programs

 

10. Oversee the selection and implementation of appropriate choral music for grades K -12.

 

11. Be the producer and voice coach for the annual musical

 

12. Always seek new ways to make our choral/music programs exemplary

 

13. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.

 

 

Terms of Employment:

 

Work year: as negotiated in the contract

Salary/Benefits per contract

 

Evaluation:

 

Three times per year for probationary teachers

A minimum of once every two years for tenured teachers
