Webberville Community Schools Board of Education Adoption Primary Function:
The Director of Bands will provide leadership and oversight for the band programs 5-12 and will teach band classes. The Director of Bands will be responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate grade level classroom instruction and activities for band programs. The Director of Bands will provide leadership for the pit orchestra for the annual high school musical.
Qualifications:
BS degree in Music with Instrumental emphasis minimal MA degree in music education or instrumental conducting preferred . Training and Experience: Leadership skills to organize, develop, and evaluate a quality 5-12 band program that will set a new standard of excellence
Demonstrated Technical Skills: Current with the use of instructional technology in music and band education including but not limited to recording equipment, sound systems, MIDI, electronic keyboards and software applications for music education
Human Relations Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, administration and community members
Directly Responsible To: Superintendent High School Principal Assistant Principal Director of Bands
Assigned Responsibilities:
1. Provide leadership for the 5 -12 band programs
2. Investigate, recommend and implement instrumental curriculum that is age appropriate to enhance the band programs 5 -12
3. Recommend curriculum, instruction and new band programs when needed to the Curriculum Council
4. Provide expertise for age appropriate curriculum, application of appropriate assessment, and for effective use of age appropriate, research based instructional strategies for instrumental education
5. Create opportunities for students to achieve excellence in band through rehearsals and through competitions by competing at District, State and National competitions
6. Instructor for secondary bands and upper elementary bands. However, if the numbers grow in the band programs that requires additional support, then recommend the hiring of an assistant band director to assist in all band classes and rehearsals
7. Responsible for the marching band as the marching band director
8. Responsible for organizing and arranging for a summer marching band camp
9. Responsible for the pit orchestra for the school musicals
10. Provide opportunities for students to perform outside the traditional band performance schedule
11. Work cooperatively with the Director of Choral Music, Orchestra Director and Theatre Instructor to build all of our performing arts programs
12. Oversee the selection and implementation of appropriate instrument music for grades 5 -12.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Terms of Employment:
Work year: as negotiated in the contract Salary/Benefits per contract
Evaluation:
Three times per year for probationary teachers A minimum of once every two years for tenured teachers
